PCR Thermocycler

  1. Steady state temp distribution using less than 15 Watts (1)
    • Prefer aprox. 2 Watts
    • Prefer No more than 5 watts in heating.
  2. Reaches steady state in less than 10 minutes (2)
  3. Runs off external power supply (3)
  4. W/o computer hookups (use microcontroller)
  5. Fully portable (2)
    • Fit within a cubic foot (ask Neil)
  6. Operator interfaced with inputs for desired temperature for upper and lower limits. (1)
    • 80–95 deg C
    • 50 – 65 deg C
  7. Region of interest stays optically visible top and bottom (1)
    • Wavelength =425–485
  8. Slides have tolerance ± 0.5 mm all directions (1)
  9. Slide must be interchangeable (1)
  10. Prefer protected from convection environment (2)
    • Enclosed environment for glass slide
  11. Variation from linear distribution must be ± 1 deg C (1)
  12. Temperature across length is ± 0.5 deg C (1)
  13. Temperature difference from set point is ± 0.5 deg C (1)
  14. Middle region is optically visible (55 mm x 10 mm) (1)
  15. Materials must be biocompatible. (1)
  16. Ease of Use (“Idiot Proof”) (2)
  17. Upper temperature range 80 – 95 deg C
  18. Lower temperature range 50–65 ºC
