The Department of Mechanical Engineering works with companies to support recruitment, offer internship, and meet research needs. With more than 225 mechanical engineers graduating each year, we provide a pool of technical talent for the state of Utah and beyond. With over 40 faculty members, we have a wide range of technical expertise to help companies looking for collaborative research and offer our senior design capstone program as a resource for working with students to develop engineering projects.
We work with you to set up traditional or specialized internships. You provide the job descriptions and we find the students to fit your needs. Some scheduling flexibility may be needed for year-round or school-year internships.
Information sessions help to introduce your company to students who may be prospective employees. Sessions may be informational, or include resume sharing and interviews. The optimal schedule for students is pizza luncheons between 11:30 and 1:30. Info sessions can be scheduled throughout the school year.
Our department offers industry forums designed to connect students with industry employers. Seminars provide a classroom setting where you can describe your mission and career benefits.
Our senior design capstone program allows your company to interact with top undergraduates and faculty while addressing a technical problem. Industry mentors work with our capstone team to define the scope of the project and work with a student team on the deliverables. Projects can be completed on campus or at your worksite. The University of Utah Career Services Center hosts an Engineering and Science Job Fair in the fall and a university-wide Job Fair in the spring for a traditional recruitment experience that includes on-campus interviewing.
Industry sponsored scholarships are a time-honored way of attracting top students. We work closely with companies to develop relationships with students for a mutually beneficial experience.
Sponsored research projects are a cost-effective way for industry to explore next-generation ideas with access to equipment and faculty expertise in the department of mechanical engineering. Research projects also connect the company sponsor to outstanding students who are working on the research. Umbrella agreements can be developed to define intellectual property rights before research begins.
