Congratulations to Benjamin Petrie and Morgan Sriphong-Ngarm for winning Undergraduate Academic Advising Community (UAAC) awards for 2022. The awards were presented at the UAAC conference on May 10, 2023. Petrie won the Outstanding New Advisor of the Year Award and Sriphong-Ngarm won the Outstanding Experienced Advisor of the Year Award.
Petrie and Sriphong-Ngarm were nominated by students, staff and faculty. Here are some of the nomination statements:
Benjamin Petrie:
“Every single semester Mr. Petrie sits down with me and works to figure out a schedule. He is always very patient and never condescending. He is absolutely phenomenal at his job.”
“Mr. Petrie is a clearly experienced advisor and is very good at what he does. He always responds fast and gives accurate information to my questions. He is knowledgeable about other engineering majors as well so he can help you decide what fits best. In my experience when I’ve had issues getting my classes, or when I’m deciding what to take, I can rely on Mr. Petrie to help me out. He has taught me to understand what my future will be like getting this degree. Overall great advisor.
Morgan Sriphong-Ngarm:
“Morgan has been the best advisor a transfer student could ask for! She’s always very positive and encouraging even when I’m feeling down on myself. She has a “no pressure”, “we’ll get through this”, and “you can do it” mentality that is contagious.”
“My personal experiences with Morgan have been amazing I think of her as a trusted friend that is looking out for me. There were many times Morgan went above & beyond to help me out by checking not only that I can satisfy my ME EN requirements but also my CS minor requirements. The impact she has had on students & her department/program is felt across the board.”
“There are a lot of advisors on campus, so this speaks volumes about the initiative and dedication of our ME undergraduate advisors!” said Debra Mascaro, Director of Undergraduate Studies for the Department of Mechanical Engineering.
In addition to the award, Petrie was also a co-chair for the UAAC Conference Planning Committee and helped organize the UAAC annual conference. The conference provides a forum for academic advisors on campus to share knowledge on programs, policies, best practices, advising models, and personal/professional well-being.
