Mechanical Engineering associate professor Ken Monson recently received $500K for two years from the Henry Jackson Foundation to collaborate with the Department of Defense (DOD) Biotechnology High Performance Computing Software Applications Institute. The institute is working to construct a computational model of blast brain injury in the minipig.
Monson, who directs the Mechanical Engineering Laboratory of Head Injury and Vessel Biomechanics, and his students, will investigate the high-rate properties of minipig brain tissue and cerebral arteries to provide data needed for the model. The model will provide insight into the mechanisms of brain injury in an explosive blast.
