The University of Utah provides one of the affordable mechanical engineering bachelor’s degrees in the country, according to new rankings from BachelorsDegreeCenter.org.
In the latest Top 10 list, the U was ranked No. 2 among the nation’s accredited universities. The University of Washington’s mechanical engineering bachelor’s degree was rated most affordable.
BachelorsDegreeCenter.org was launched in 2014 to “help prospective bachelor’s degree students find the best educational program most suited to their financial, educational, and personal situation.”
The U’s Department of Mechanical Engineering, led by chair and professor, Bruce Gale, describes its undergraduate program:
Mechanical Engineering at the University of Utah is not your everyday classroom experience, as it combines advanced technical knowledge with plenty of hands-on practical and professional experience. Starting with ME 1000 in the first semester and culminating in the Senior Design capstone experience, ME students participate in hands-on, project-based learning all throughout the four-year program. By their senior year, ME students have the skills to design and build, as part of a team, an actual device or product, such as an electric skateboard, a robotic hand, or a solar-powered car. ME undergraduates at the University of Utah also have opportunities to work closely with the internationally renowned faculty on creative and critical research projects, and to participate in the research and development of solutions to diverse real-world problems.
